Bloomsburg Field Hockey Rolls Past Kutztown

KUTZTOWN--The Bloomsburg University field hockey team secured the number two spot in the upcoming Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) playoffs with a 5-2 win over Kutztown.

The Huskies exploded for five first half goals and went on to the easy win. Chelsea Due (Pen Argyl/Pen Argyl) opened the scoring in the 17th minute with an unassisted goal. Four minutes later, Jamie Vanartsdalen (Huntington Valley/Lower Moreland) scored her 30th goal of the year for a 2-0 Bloomsburg lead. Kutztown cut the lead in half with a goal at the 23:15 mark, before the Huskies closed out the half with three goals over a four-minute stretch.

Due scored off an Ashley Heckard (Millerstown/Greenwood) assist in the 29th minute, then Heckard scored off an Amy Gilbert (Huntington Valley/Lower Moreland) assist less than a minute later. Then in the 33rd minute, Samantha Kropa (Tunkhannock/Lackawanna Trail) scored unassisted to give Bloomsburg a 5-1 lead at the break.

Kutztown added a goal late in the second half for the 5-2 final.

Due finished with two goals, while Heckard added a goal and an assist. Bloomsburg, 16-3, 11-3 in the PSAC, will close out its regular season with a game at home with Catawba College at 3 p.m.
